#ENDTHEWAITING Vigil

Time: 5.30 – 6.45 pm

Event description:
This is a peaceful community event that is open to all people.
This public peaceful vigil is in support of the rights of asylum seekers who have been waiting for up to 10 years to have their refugee rights confirmed so they can settle in Australia. This is part of a national campaign #Endthewaiting, organised by the National Council of Churches in Australia and the Australian Churches Refugee Taskforce.

#EndTheWaiting campaign is urging the Albanese Government to provide:
-A pathway to permanency for all asylum seekers failed by Australia’s flawed asylum processes, including those subjected to the Fast Track system.
-Work rights for all asylum seekers while claims are processed.
-One visa that extends until claims are processed—ending the bureaucratic nightmare of applying for a new visa every 3-6 months.

These are simple, achievable changes that do not require new laws. The Immigration Minister already has the power to act. This is a matter of political will. More information on #endthewaiting is available by clicking the link below:
