Upcoming 2025 Events

Time: 5.30 – 6.45 pm
Event description:
This event is for the electorate of Brisbane.
Live music provided by Peter Branjerdporn, and refreshments from 5.30 pm, speakers will begin at 6 pm, ending around 6.45pm.
This is a peaceful community event that is open to all people.
This public peaceful vigil is in support of the rights of asylum seekers who have been waiting for up to 10 years to have their refugee rights confirmed so they can settle in Australia. This is part of a national campaign #Endthewaiting, organised by the National Council of Churches in Australia and the Australian Churches Refugee Taskforce.
#EndTheWaiting campaign is urging the Albanese Government to provide:
-A pathway to permanency for all asylum seekers failed by
Australia’s flawed asylum processes, including those subjected to
the Fast Track system.
-Work rights for all asylum seekers while claims are processed.
-One visa that extends until claims are processed—ending the
bureaucratic nightmare of applying for a new visa every three to
six months.
These are simple, achievable changes that do not require new laws. The Immigration Minister already has the power to act. This is a matter of political will.

The Nicene Creed has been a foundation of Christian orthodoxy since its formulation began 1700 years ago in the Council of Nicaea. It is one of many creeds over the centuries which have sought to define a consensus on what constitutes right belief. On June 25, Merthyr Explorers will consider the role of such creeds for articulating faith today. Given the wide diversity of contemporary theologies, does this creed still express the faith to which many Christians adhere today? Should contemporary creeds allow more space for theological development and diversity? Should our quest for unity be found in something other than doctrine? Rev. David Busch will facilitate this session.
