Methyr Road Uniting Church

Christmas party for refugee families

REFUGEES ARE WELCOME HERE was the theme of the Christmas party hosted by Merthyr Road Uniting Church congregation for the residents of Welcome House in Moray St, New Farm. Over 100 current and past residents gathered for a very happy time that included a BBQ meal, jumping castle for the children and gifts for all of the children. The gifts were donated by the parishioners and by families who attended Christmas parties held by SANDS (Stillbirth and Newborn Death Support) and Compassionate Friends (supporting families after the death of a child). The Historical Society’s Empty Christmas Tree this year also supported clients of the MDA with gifts of food.

Welcome House is a transitional residential place run by Multicultural Development Association (MDA) where newly arrived refugees can live temporarily while the Housing Team help them to find suitable housing.
